I have to say this is one of the best events that eve-N-odd had anything to do with! Such a pleasure to meet the traveling letterpress owner, Kyle Durrie. She has been to over 120 cities throughout the USA and Canada since July! Pretty amazing! Thanks to everyone who came out to see how a letterpress works! It was a fun day!

Moveable Type is a truck that contains a letter press and is traveling to St. Petersburg, FL... and parking outside of the Crislip arcade/eve-N-odd gallery!
The truck runs on donations so I hope the community comes out and tries out the letterpress and donates to the cause!

About the Project:

"Quite literally, moveable type is the system of printing that uses moveable pieces of type – individual letters, numbers, characters – to reproduce the elements of a document. Invented in China, but popularized by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440, moveable type was like the internet for the 15th century, allowing widespread reproduction of printed materials like books, announcements, and advertising. Today, moveable type is associated with the art of letterpress printing. It is also a project involving 1982 Chevy step van and a few thousand pounds of lead, wood, iron, and love.

My name is Kyle Durrie. I’m a letterpress printer from Portland, Oregon and the proprietor of Power and Light Press.

I am inspired by wobbly lines, history, overheard conversations, logs, whiskey, trains, the color brown, the Wild West, dogs, salt water, road maps, vintage office supplies, and beards, among other things. I also love crossword puzzles, swimming in creeks, green chile, adventures, and occupying small spaces.

But two of my favorite things in the world are printing and road trips. These two things kept getting in the way of one another in my life, though; they seemed mutually exclusive. I wanted to figure out a way to do both things at the same time."

The Kensington Interaction is about art... sharing art... giving and taking art. I think it's a beautiful idea and one that I suggested to local city planners in a meeting a few weeks ago. Here is some pics from the board... HERE! I love leaving art there. And when I'm not there... my friend, Ross leaves things on our behalf. In the photos above... I left several pieces of works on paper... and one snowman to advertise the call for art for the snowman window display... (due November 1st!) I hope that some local Calgary artists contribute to the project!

For years I have been doing group mail art shows... you might remember the first show was Self Portrait and was shown at the Globe Coffee Lounge in St. Petersburg. The next show was called Chromatophore and was installed by me at the Studio @620. Last year's show was UR Toy Story and was shown at Artpool on 1st Avenue north! This year's show was called Utopia/Dystopia and was shown at eve-N-odd! So now I am announcing the current mail art call:

ART LETTERS.

Perhaps you are thinking of the lost art of letter writing... It is a lost art. But, I'm not really thinking about traditional letters with this call... I guess what I'm thinking about is the kind of letters that I send out... fully illustrated... or collaged...mixed with hand written statements and even poetry. But, like any art show, your work is your own... and must be interpreted by you. And perhaps I am asking something too difficult and time consuming... the choice is yours! I don't mind if the future show will be quaint and fantastic... I'm kinda hoping for that.

Hanging out in the green room before having our time on camera... I thought I would be really nervous but, I seemed to manage. I guess the major part of my worrying took place the day before. I'm an artist... not a beauty queen, nor a fashion diva... I like to paint and sew rag dolls... so hopefully that is what I lived up to. The International Etsy Meetup will be from 10 am to 6 pm.
The Globe Coffee Lounge will be providing a special menu so that vendors can do take out orders. The Globe provides whole food and vegan lunches, desserts, and coffee! The menu will be in your vendor info pack at check in, along with special coupons from CENTRAL ART SUPPLY.
*we need to keep a neat aisle in the arcade and we cannot block any doors. There are bathrooms on site. The Arcade is a covered hallway that is not air-conditioned. There are trees for shade on the 600 block.
Set up can start at 9 am and take down must be over by 7 pm.
If you can't stay the whole day--just let me know for planning purposes.

Trinkets From Heaven 2
Open call for art & craft gift items $20 AND UNDER

Show will be in the whole month of December with the official opening Dec. 10th, during the Artwalk. Work will be due November 28th. The gallery cannot pay for any shipping.

Work must be packaged and priced and ready to hang on the gallery wall or be able to be hung on a prop that can hang on the wall or be able to be hung using a clothespin on a clothes line.

Work will be juried but, the gallery is looking for a variety of artists with different types of work at an affordable price. ($20 and under)

NEW SHOW: one woman show by DEMEREE of DemiGod Studio

Demeree is a mixed media artist based in Largo, Florida. After exploring various
mediums in college, she received her degree in Photography and Art History.
Even though she still has an interest in these subjects, they are not at the
forefront of her work today. She enjoys the tactile possibilities of her current
mediums of choice, found object sculpture, painting and printmaking.

Among her favorite places are well-stocked thrift stores, where she unearths
various object d’art to use in her artwork and inspire her in her home studio.
Demeree has some favorite finds, including weathered metal boxes, cobalt-
colored glassware and various religious iconography. The artist believes in the
idea that objects have souls and therefore, vintage items are a thing of beauty
to her. Objects that have gained character as it has aged provide inspiration,
and she loves how the marks of time hint at a past life and the people that once
owned it.

She is always creating things because she surrounds herself with materials and
inspiration, so there are usually multiple projects in various stages of completion
all over her home studio, ranging from jewelry to linocuts. She is constantly
trying something new, and lately she has been exploring the possibilities of
marrying found objects with ceramics.

The artist has participated in numerous handmade craft shows under the name
DemiGod Studio around St. Petersburg and Sarasota. You can find her work in
small galleries and boutiques in those cities, as well as on online through Etsy.
Her plans for the future include more intricate mixed-media work, which she
plans to show in local galleries and exhibitions.

"MADE HERE" is almost here! The FREE event is this Friday, April 29th
from 12-8PM at the Palmetto Art Center.

Hi everyone! Opening night is quickly approaching! It's going to be a really exciting opening! April 9th from 8pm to 11 pm! This is Jane Wang's bunny creation! Jane was so nice to add the Stuffed Bunny Show to the Mobius website, where she is an active artist and curator.

I made a bunny yesterday and I just love her! And... she is up for bid on ebay. 100% of the sale price will go to aid Japan. I wanted to do something and donate to the cause so this is my humble offering. There are several bids already and I hope if you are interested in her that you will bid also. It's for a good cause. Today I worked on this quilt. Also take a look at the new Hugo lamp that he brought in Saturday night! It's a hand-painted lamp shade and it's just wonderful! $50 for you!

Here is a recent doll that I made. I think I have her priced at $25. She is stuffed with eco wool and is a real gem!
