Recent trip to Calgary: Kensington Interaction

"Neil Egsgard invests in what he calls social capital.  Instead of buying a bigger television or a faster car Neil spends his free time and extra cash on starting community projects.  Founder of the Kensington Interaction, Neil transformed an old boarded up window on a main street in Kensington into a public art space and a mural that reflects the hardware store’s history in the neighbourhood." --via http://www.design4change.ca/dowhatyoulove/lunch-time-speakers/

The Kensington Interaction is about art... sharing art... giving and taking art.  I think it's a beautiful idea and one that I suggested to local city planners in a meeting a few weeks ago.  Here is some pics from the board...   HERE!  I love leaving art there.  And when I'm not there... my friend, Ross leaves things on our behalf.  In the photos above... I left several pieces of works on paper... and one snowman to advertise the call for art for the snowman window display... (due November 1st!)  I hope that some local Calgary artists contribute to the project!

FINDERS

FOUND by me
Free Art Friday is a random event that happens in the city of St. Petersburg whenever the Crafty Hag, Coralette Damme deems it so.  The call goes out from the facebook Free Art Friday page and then... all the artists gear up to leave work on the streets of St. Petersburg.  Art that is left may be taken by anyone.  It's a fun game and I left several pieces and scored a few!  Usually I try not to take any art and leave it for the next person, but this time I could not resist the Amy Winehouse art.

If mail art is your thing... 5th annual Mail Art Show!

For years I have been doing group mail art shows... you might remember the first show was Self Portrait and was shown at the Globe Coffee Lounge in St. Petersburg.  The next show was called Chromatophore and was installed by me at the Studio @620.  Last year's show was UR Toy Story and was shown at Artpool on 1st Avenue north!  This year's show was called Utopia/Dystopia and was shown at eve-N-odd!  So now I am announcing the current mail art call:
ART LETTERS
Perhaps you are thinking of the lost art of letter writing... It is a lost art.  But, I'm not really thinking about traditional letters with this call...  I guess what I'm thinking about is the kind of letters that I send out... fully illustrated... or collaged...mixed with hand written statements and even poetry.  But, like any art show, your work is your own... and must be interpreted by you.  And perhaps I am asking something too difficult and time consuming... the choice is yours!  I don't mind if the future show will be quaint and fantastic... I'm kinda hoping for that.

Art Letters can be sent to:

Jennifer Kosharek
eve-N-odd gallery
645 Central Ave #11
St. Petersburg, FL 33701

All work will be documented on www.jenniferzoe.blogspot.com
No work will be returned.
All work will be part of the Kosharek mail art archives.
And I probably won't have time to write you back.  You should feel free to write to anyone that you see on my blog.

Due Date is August 1, 2012
Happy Writing!

Checking out sketchbooks was a lot of fun!  You got to have your own library card and then you could check out sketchbooks by artist, subject or country of origin.  Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!

David Berube

eve-N-odd is proud to let you know that a wonderful artist of ours is featured in a new book! David Berube did all the artwork for this book of poetry and art!

It Ain't Truth If It Doesn't Hurt
Poetry by Brandon Lacy Campos & Artwork by David Berube

It Ain't Truth If It Doesn't Hurt is spoken word artist Brandon Lacy Campos' first collection of poetic works that stretch, snap, engage, top, bottom, flip, and serve the intersections of race, class, sexual orientation, gender, lust, love, sex, HIV, and politics.

From his personal life narrative to his political outrage to his out of control romantic heart, It Ain't Truth If It Doesn't Hurt walks the line of pain and pleasure and brings to light some of the truths that slice us open, turn us inside out and sometimes sew us back together.

Each of the poems in this collection are matched with a print from artist David Berube's “Face a Day” collection.

You can purchase this book HERE.

What have we been up to lately??
